This week we caught up with Martin Horwood in Westminster and he gave us a post-election update on what it’s like working with the Tories, how the abolition of the regional spatial strategy will effect Leckhampton’s Green Lands and his position on the upcoming budget cuts in Cheltenham.
A fascinating website covering the history of the shops of Bath Road, The Suffolks and Tivoli launched last week. The website www.cheltenhamsouthtown.org was created and funded by the south Cheltenham community initiative Cheltenham Connect and a number of local historians and researchers.
Here is our latest interview with Councillor Klara Sudbury. Klara talks about the role of a Councillor in Cheltenham and her priorities for Leckhampton.
So when asking for suggestions of who to interview next for our LeckhamptonOnline meets feature, Matt Birch was a name that cropped up a few times. You may know Matt as the Landlord of The Brown Jug, or you may know him as a key member of Bath Road Traders Association (BaRTA). Either way, he’s a man in the know and worth having a chat with. Please meet Matt.
By the way, Bath Road Traders Association have recently produced a discount voucher leaflet full of offers and deals to be used in shops in Bath Road. You may already have had one posted through your door, and you can also pick them one up from many shops in Bath Road. And whilst you’re at it, why not treat yourself to fab new BaRTA canvas shopping bag? Just £2.99 available from COOK, The Brown Jug and other shops on the Bath Road. It’s all about keeping it local.
Here is our interview with Mark Sheldon about the council’s budget consultation, and the potential cuts facing Cheltenham. We will be interviewing Mark again in December once the council’s proposed budget has been made public, so if you have any questions post them as comments below.
If you live in Leckhampton you should be aware of the gentle army that is LEGLAG.
LEGLAG (Leckhampton Green Land Action Group) is continually striving to protect the green field areas in Leckhampton from inappropriate, large-scale development. LeckhamptonOnline met with Kit Braunholtz, Chairman of LEGLAG to talk about the ongoing fight and what Leckhampton can do to help.
It’s easy to do your bit to support LEGLAG. Membership is a tiny £3 for 3 years. Surely every Leckhampton resident should be a member? We’ve made it easy for you to download the membership form here. Come on now, no excuses. Please do it now and let’s keep Leckhampton green together.
Duncan Thomas will be going to Tanzania to give away 6000 footballs to disadvantaged children later this year as part of www.theGreatFootballGiveaway.org.uk. Find out how Leckhampton can help.
